About Chatmusic
 Chatmusic
is a website, record label and band network dedicated to the promotion
of bold and innovative acoustic and mulitcultural music featuring the
violin. Chatmusic is run by Kate Hands and
Joe Townsend, both violinists and fiddle players
who are passionate about performing, teaching and promoting violin music.
The letters
CHAT stand for Cat, Horse And Tree, the essential
components of the violin. Violins are made from the wood of a tree, and
bow hair comes from the tail of a horse. In the beginning violin strings
were made from sheep's intestine, which was given the nickname "catgut".
